Eating What You Grow

Visited this Aquaponics facility in Austin, Texas yesterday. Agua Dolce, an organic vegetable grower just outside town. Lloyd, the owner, was very gracious and took around his facility. Very impressive.
Two large, newly recovered "hothouses. Two tanks in each run the full length of both sides with plants spending four weeks in transition from starter to harvest.

Tilapia in a different facility were creating the fish poo "liquor" that is filtered and distilled to feed the floating plants. Intimidating and interesting to see.

PS: No. I do not think that aquaponic, aeroponic or hydroponic gardening will replace conventional farming. And no, I do not think a converted container will equal several acres of farmland. However, eating more foods from close to home is good. And, eating foods without any envioronmental pollutants such as mercury, dioxins, etc. is good for all of us.
