Austin Graffiti Gallery

Austin, Texas, capital of that great State, has the slogan "Keep Austin Weird." Befitting such a slogan is the Hope Outdoor Gallery, a repurposed, failed housing project from the '80s. Also called the Graffiti Park at Castle Hill it constantly changes. There have been some monumental-sized pieces done by talented people that have since been tagged almost to destruction. When I first saw that it saddened me. Then I accepted that's the essence of the place; the transience of any one voice in the murmur and cacophony of public dialogue. Enjoy!

This Joker w/ a camera was one of the best original pieces
On a wall beside the Joker. A gas mask?
A space the size of the Joker hands raised on the sides.
Has it been spared because some think it's Christ?
Several pieces of text art. On the left is a character pointing out.
If you take that as "you" it might read
"You do it 4 the money. I do it 4 the Steez"
With "steez" being "easy style" or cool then it might mean
'you make art for money I do it to express myself.'

SKUM
This was large and filled with movement and emotion.
These two wall sitters are enjoying one of the best views of Austin
